While I was visiting the region in August last year, I took the Shakespeare Express (it's a steam train) to get to Stratford-upon-Avon. It leaves from Snow Hill and it gets you there in 1 hour, but I think that it only goes on Sundays. I paid ₤15 for a return ticket.
