I'm not sure what you mean by modern plays, but you can go to the Royal Court's theater, the Jerwood, in Sloane Square and you'll probably like it. They usually have plays written by young or recently discovered writers and the selection is very good. I don't remember going to any plays there recently and leaving disappointed.
